Request a Flag

Members of Parliament have the capacity to provide the officially designated national flags: the Australian flag, the Aboriginal flag and the Torres Strait Islander Flag. The Flag Program is funded via parliamentary allowances to support grassroots, volunteer-led, and highly accessible community organisations within the Forrest electorate. Flags are public assets funded by taxpayers and will be distributed strictly to groups that provide barrier-free benefits to the local community.

Flags are available only to eligible community groups, schools, not-for-profit organisations and places of worship. These groups must have a dedicated functional flagpole on their premises for the public display of the flag.  Flags are also available for funeral services for deceased veterans and local students representing Australia overseas.

Eligible community groups must meet the following criteria:

• Non-profit status: must be a registered, active Not-for-Profit (NFP) organisation, Public Benevolent Institution (PBI) or Incorporated Association.
• Voluntary Governance: Must be governed by a volunteer board or committee.
• Primary Purpose: The primary objective must be community service, youth development, veteran support or amateur grassroots recreation.

Ineligible organisations include:

• Government Entities and Agencies: Federal, state, and local government departments, statutory authorities, and government-funded agencies (including local shire and city councils) are ineligible, as they have dedicated operational funding streams to procure their own flags.
• For Profit Aged Care & Medical Facilities: Private corporate, or for-profit aged care facilities, retirement villages, and medical centres are strictly ineligible. Only community owned, registered charitable, or secular/religious NFP aged care providers may apply.
• Financial Barriers/High Membership Fees: Any organisation that charges an individual or family annual membership fee exceeding $250. This explicitly excludes high-fee sporting, golf, social or recreational clubs.
• Commercial or Hospitality Operations: Any organisation that operates commercial, profit-generating amenities on-site for members or the public. This includes clubs running commercial bistros, bars, or gambling/electronic gaming machines (EGM) facilities.
• Restricted Public Access: Organisations that operate on a private-invitation or nomination-only membership bass. Facilities must be generally accessible to the broader public or specific vulnerable demographics.

Unfortunately, our ration of Australian flags is not sufficient to provide them to individuals.
