Dalyellup Decision a Big Win for People Power & Housing

Wednesday 19 August 2026

Federal Member for Forrest, Ben Small MP, strongly welcomed today’s decision of the Statutory Planning Commission not to approve commercial development on land zoned for residential housing in Dalyellup.

This decision was made after Bunnings made a request to relocate its premises from its current Bunbury location to Dalyellup.

Comments attributable to the Federal Member for Forrest:

“Today’s decision is big win for people power and common sense in the middle of a housing crisis.”

“In a housing crisis, it was an absurd proposition that land zoned for 100 homes with all of the infrastructure in place and indeed with all of the biggest builders in the South West declaring that they are champing at the bit to build on that land would have gone to see a relocation of Bunnings from Bunbury.”

“I commend the hard work and advocacy of motivated locals like Monique Warnock and Bunbury business legend Eddy Gobby. This decision proves that a group of motivated locals on the right side of an issue can get results for their community, and I was delighted to support them in the journey.”

“Of course, I understand that not everyone will be over the moon with this decision, but I’d urge that everyone look at the bigger picture in terms of our dire housing situation in the South West.”

“In the long run, the Coalition plan to unlock more housing supply and to cap migration to the number of homes built in any year will see us get the market back into balance and restore the dream of home ownership to all Australians.”
